Love Ice Cream, Hate The Calories? Cut Through The Summer Heat With These 4 LEAN Frozen Desserts

By now, most of us have learned that no matter how hard you work in the gym every day, the key to a chiseled summer body comes down to what you’re fetching for in the kitchen.

With the thick summer heat settling in, sometimes all we want to do after a long day and an exhausting, sweaty workout is to collapse in front of the TV and go to town on a cold, refreshing pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Of course, a cheat meal 1x/week (not a cheat day) on your summer diet plan is completely okay, and can actually help restore your hormone levels back to normal.

But treating yourself to the wrong pint or other indulgent ice cream dessert a few times per week can derail your diet in just a few spoonfuls.

Luckily, companies have been able to concoct swimsuit-friendly frozen treats that taste great AND fit with a lean lifestyle. From frozen ice cream sandwiches to high protein gelato cups and popsicles, just about anyone can find a healthier version of their favorite frozen treat to enjoy this season — guilt-free.

Here are 4 of my favorite brands to look out for that can help satisfy any sweet tooth craving.

Forte High Protein Gelato

When I first stumbled upon this brand on Instagram, I thought it was too good to be true. After traveling through Italy two summers ago, I completely fell in love with the creamy deliciousness of gelato. Forte has successfully created four amazing flavors (literally, AMAZING) of individually-packaged gelato that contain a solid 15 grams of protein!

The best part? It’s made with all natural ingredients that you can recognize and pronounce, including rBST-free dairy, Madagascar vanilla, agave, and Dutch cocoa. I don’t know how they do it, but they do it very well.

It currently comes in Vanilla Bean, Espresso, Chocolate and Ginger. Vanilla Bean is my personal favorite.

ENLIGHTENED Ice Cream Sandwiches & Bars

When I was younger, my family had a tradition of buying a 6-pack of ice cream sandwiches after we went out for dinner on Saturday nights. Oh, how I missed those chocolate wafers, sandwiched with a chunk of vanilla ice cream in between.

ENLIGHTENED has reinvented the “flying saucer” ice cream sandwich by creating a lean version that’s only 100 calories AND insanely delicious. They currently have two flavors— mint or vanilla—each of which packs 7 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber.

And if you’re in search of something a bit simpler, try out their decadent ice cream bars that have 70-80 calories, 8-9 grams of protein, and 5g of fiber a pop! My favorite one here was their Peanut Butter bar, which I chopped up and blended into a post-workout smoothie. These also come in Orange Cream, Toasted Almond, Coffee, and Fudge.

Arctic Zero Ice Cream

Arctic Zero isn’t a newbie to the frozen treat game. Yet, for anyone who hasn’t heard of this brand yet, you can eat an entire pint of ice cream for 150 calories. That’s right — the whole pint. This year they came out with three new flavors: Sea Salt Caramel, Orange Cream, and Coconut. My favorite here is definitely the Sea Salt Caramel.

Just be mindful, if you’re able to finish the whole pint with only 150 calories, don’t expect it to taste like Haagen-Dazs. The benefit here is about volume eating and the added whey protein (12g per pint).

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars

Are you getting sick of the Greek yogurt trend already? We hope not, because the high protein snack isn’t going away anytime soon.

Wasn’t it great when Ben & Jerry’s came out with a Greek frozen yogurt line? Eh, not really, since their regular frozen yogurt actually has more protein than their Greek variety. And a whopping 840 calories and 64g of sugar per pint.

Instead of grabbing one of these pints, I satisfy my creamy yogurt craving with Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars. These come in an array of flavors, including Peanut Butter Cup, Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Blueberry, and Coconut. Each bar packs 6-7 grams of protein and is made without any artificial sweeteners. All of the flavors I tasted were decadent and rich, so you really can’t go wrong here with any of the varieties.

Have you tried any of these brands or another healthy frozen treat to satisfy your cravings? Post a comment and let us know!
