Starbucks Is Unleashing Its Newest Seasonal Monstrosity — The Chestnut Praline Latte (CPL)
Chaaaaaaayeah! Here comes another fattening acronym to weaken our knees, fatten up the holidays, and exploit America’s insatiable addiction to drinkable dessert.
On November 12th, Starbucks is officially unleashing its newest seasonal monstrosity in the US and Canada — the Chestnut Praline Latte, aka the CPL. It’s the first new addition to Starbucks’ winter drink menu in nearly 5 years, joining the Peppermint Mocha and Gingerbread Latte.
I’m envisioning an all-chestnut-everything takeover. This is terrifying. We’re all doomed. Can we finally admit that we have a problem?
According to Starbucks sources, it’s slightly less atrocious than its pumpkin-spiced brethren, filling up at 330 calories in a grande (the PSL has 380). The PSL also packs 49g sugar, 51g carbs, and 13g of fat, so figure the CPL is right in that ballpark (read: uber-fattening).
And as for the flavor:
“it’s inspired by the time-honored holiday tradition of warm roasted chestnuts… with freshly steamed milk and flavors of caramelized chestnuts and spices.”
Just like the PSL, which doesn’t have any real pumpkin puree in it, the CPL is devoid of any nuts. It’s stacked high with whipped cream, gobs and gobs of sugar, caramel praline crumbs, and coffee — buried somewhere inside.
If you’re drooling and REALLY feel the need to indulge, get it skinny sans whipped cream. And do it after a workout. You’ll mitigate all of the damage.
Or better yet, drink good coffee, and have it black (or brown, with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmet). You know, the way it’s supposed to go down. As if there wasn’t already enough inflating our bellies during the holidays.
