Your Go-To Workout-Approved Makeup Routine

When I workout, 99% of the time it’s with a fresh, makeup-free face. Unfortunately I’m no Beyoncé and hardly ever wakeup with skin that’s deemed “flawless.” A majority of the time I’m the Queen of dark circles, discoloration, and pale-ness (basically I look like Smeagol).

I’m team #NoMakeup most days, but there are occasions when my pre/post workout life requires I look presentable to the world. The last thing I want is to appear caked up going to and from the gym — to combat that I’ve come up with a go-to workout makeup routine that will add a little pizazz to your face, without looking like you just mastered Kim Kardashian’s makeup routine.

Give it a shot the next time you have to rush to a meeting post-workout, or get your burn on before a hot blind date.

 

1. FOUNDATION — BB Creams

I love these bad boys because they’re formulated to multitask. They correct dark spots, even out your complexion, hydrate, smooth, and protect your skin with SPF. If you’re like me, spending more than ten minutes in front of the mirror is an absolute no. BB creams are perfect for the days when you roll out of bed, throw on clothes that are seemingly clean, and go.

Another great thing about BB creams is that the coverage is buildable, meaning depending on your mood you can go from “natural” to photo shoot ready in an instance. When it comes to working out, BB creams always get my vote because you can create the breathable no makeup, makeup everyone lusts over.

  • Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream ($30, Amazon): When I was competing in track meets this foundation withstood what both the mid-June, humid Austin, Texas weather AND the 110+ degree, arid Arizona weather had to offer. I love it because it has an SPF of 35 (always wear a moisturizer with SPF), hydrates your skin without leaving it oily, and gives you a smooth complexion. This cream is great for anyone with an oily complexion and is formulated to inhibit oil buildup, preventing shine throughout the day. This cream can last nine rounds and then some.
  • NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer ($35, Amazon): In a close second is NARS’ Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. If you want something that feels slightly lighter on your skin and provides a luminous glow, this is the cream for you! It has an SPF of 30 and comes in 11 different shades, so you’re bound to find one that matches your skin tone. Plus it’s non-comedogenic, which means it’s formulated to prevent your pores from being clogged.

 

2. BRONZER

Skip the blush and go straight to bronzer. There’s no need for blush when your workout will provide you with naturally rosy cheeks. I use bronzer to provide dimension to my face.

I’m currently in love with the Bobbi Brown ‘Bali Brown’ Bronzer. It has just the right amount of shimmer to make you look sun kissed year round! I apply it on my temple/blend into my hair line, outline my jaw bone, and right underneath my cheek bones.

3. MASCARA

I’m loyal to my Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ Mascara. I love my lashes to look plush, long, and natural. This mascara doesn’t flake off so you won’t have to worry about looking like Frankenstein by the time you leave the gym. I never have any issues removing it when I get home, but also swear by Jojoba oil to completely remove my mascara ($32, Amazon).

Another favorite of mine is Dior ‘Diorshow’ Mascara. Same as above you’ll get the plush and lift, and won’t have to worry about chunks of mascara falling off your eyes ($30, Amazon).
